I received your letter through the fellow selling the "Save the Delta
Queen" pins on ebay. I am glad to hear that you are helping to do
something about the Queen. I certainly can't understand why Congress has
such a "thing" against the ship. Nobody has ever been killed on her and
folks ride fully aware that she doesn't meet all modern standards. My
wife and I will be on her for the Thanksgiving cruise. Our first. Please
keep in touch if you need any assistance or if you draft a letter that
we could all send to our congressmen.
Sincerely,
Michael and Kay MacLean

I live in Helena-West Helena, AR, a
city that has had a long and famous reputation on the
Mississippi River. Helena and West Helena merged two years ago
but the old downtown of Helena remains a way point for the tour
boats and is a "Main Street City". Paula Oliver is the paid
representative of "Main Street Helena" and she along with many
other locals are personal friends with Senator Blanche Lincoln,
a Helena native, as well as several people are close to Senator
Mark Pryor. She may be able to help, I don't know the politics
of the issue, but Helena desires to keep the boats stopping here
to dump garbage, get water and let their passengers enjoy the
history and antiques of Helena. Her email is
paulaoliver@suddenlink.net .Please let me know her response,
I am a life long resident of West Helena, but I do like history
and money coming into our community. If she has reservations
about supporting your effort, I may know other locals with
contacts and other "political" responsibilities.
