
STEAMBOATS FROM THE PAST
This
is another of the Greene boats, The GORDON C. GREENE. She was owned by
the Greene Line Steamers, and operated as an overnight passenger boat. The boat
was originally named the CAPE GIRARDEAU built in 1923, by the Eagle Packet Co.,
of St. Louis.
The boat was purchased by Captain Tom and Mary Greene on March 21,1935, and started her first trip with tourists to Florence, Alabama. The boat was 210 ft X 38' and had a draft of 6.5 feet. This boat became the family boat of the Greene Line. This company, Greene Line Steamers was based out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
